Chemical energy is the potential of a chemical substance to undergo transformation through a chemical reaction or, to transform into other chemical substances.

Forming or breaking chemical bonds involves energy. This energy can be absorbed or evolve from a chemical system.

It is important to note that food is also a source of chemical energy since, when processed by the body, they offer heat (calories), proteins and vitamins.

Chemical energy, in short, is one of the many manifestations of energy. Although this type of energy is always present in matter, it only manifests itself when an alteration of it is registered.

What is chemical energy for?

Humanity has always used chemical reactions to produce energy. From the most rudimentary, of wood or coal combustion, to the most sophisticated, which take place in the engines of modern airplanes or spaceships.

Chemical reactions are accompanied by a detachment, or in other cases an absorption of energy.

The energy released or absorbed can be in the form of light energy, electrical, mechanical, etc., but it usually manifests itself in the form of heat.

The heat exchanged in a chemical reaction is called the heat of reaction and has a characteristic value for each reaction.
