Types of biology

The word biology is made up of the Greek terms bios, which means life, and logos whose meaning is study. It consists of a natural science that deals with examining the qualities of living organisms, concentrating on their provenance and progress.

Biology investigates the traits that characterize a model as an individual and species as groups, examining their behaviors, their links, their links with the environment and their customs in the field of reproduction.

Types of biology

Marine biology

Marine biology encompasses the scientific investigations of the conglomerate of entities and species that live in the aquatic environment. The planet Earth is made up of two thirds of water and it is inhabited by millions of living beings.

Marine biology encompasses a set of general coordinates such as geological and biological, oceanographic and atmospheric phenomena. All these aspects make up the underwater landscapes and the variety of ecosystems that belong to the marine environment.

The specialist in this branch of biology is known as a marine biologist and is in charge of investigating the relationships that occur in any aquatic environment and studies its link with the requirements of human beings.

Cell biology

Cell biology is a branch that studies cells. It consists of a scientific discipline that focuses on the organization, functioning, constituent elements, links and qualities of cells, and feeds on the data provided by other sciences such as genetics , immunology and biochemistry, among other disciplines.

Biotechnology

Biotechnology is a branch of biology that has a multidisciplinary origin and whose research and results are administered to requests for industrial and technological procedures. Biotechnology encompasses a technological application that uses living beings or biological structures to achieve the emergence of procedures and products used for a specific use.

Microbiology is a category that is responsible for investigating microorganisms. These entities can be seen only through the use of the microscope . This is because microbes are tiny living beings that can be made up of a cell, or small cell adhesions without cellular difference.

Microorganisms are subdivided into eukaryotes, which are those that have a nucleus, and prokaryotes, which consist of those beings that do not have a nucleus.

Microbiology is a specialty that constantly makes modern discoveries due to its research object. According to specialists, a small portion of the microbes that exist on the planet are known. These arguments indicate that although there is currently a great technological and scientific development, microbiology is a discipline with a great extension and there is a lot of information to reveal.

Biochemistry

Biochemistry is a discipline that analyzes the chemistry of life; which means that it tries to define the organization, and the functioning of living matter in molecular terms. This branch belongs to both Biology and Chemistry .

Biochemistry is subdivided into three fundamental branches:

  • The structural chemistry of the compounds of living matter and the link of biological function with chemical organization.
  • The metabolism , the generality of chemical reactions taking place in living matter.
  • The chemistry of the procedures and substances that store and transfer biological data. This branch is also related to molecular genetics.

Astrobiology

The word astrobiology comes from the Greek roots, it refers to analyzing the probable existence of life on the other planets , it is made up lexically of astro, which means star, together with bios, whose meaning is life, and the suffix logia that means study.

Astrobiology is a discipline that deals with investigating and studying life in the universe. It covers the beginning, how it is divided, and the future of life in the universe. This category is based on collaboration with other sciences such as biology, geology and astrophysics, to require studies on the origin, appearance and influence of life on other planets.

Biophysics

Biophysics is a branch of Biology that investigates the physical foundations inferior to all the procedures of living systems. Biophysics is a discipline that is considered reductionist because it indicates that all phenomena seen in nature have a predicted scientific description.

Biophysics is a discipline that analyzes biology with the fundamentals and procedures of physics .

Molecular biology

Molecular biology is a scientific branch of biology whose goal is to investigate the procedures that are formed in living beings from the molecular perspective .
